Google Sheets is the right choice when you want the totals calculated for you without installing Excel. Every template above has formulas for the line totals, subtotal, tax, and total. You get less control over the typography than in Google Docs, but no arithmetic to check.
Subtotal, discount, tax, and total update as you fill in the line items.
Gridlines are hidden and borders sit only where an invoice needs them.
Works on any device, without an Excel license. Share the sheet if someone needs to review it first.
Make a copy of the file in Drive, or duplicate the tab to keep all invoices in one file.
File > Download > PDF with Fit to width selected gives you a one-page invoice.
Business name, address, and contact details for both parties.
A sequential number, the issue date, and a due date, for example 14 or 30 days later.
Description, quantity, unit price, and amount per item.
Calculated automatically in the Excel and Google Sheets versions, by hand in Word and Google Docs.
Bank details such as IBAN and BIC, accepted payment methods, and payment terms.
PO number, project name, and any custom terms or thank-you note.
Click Open in Google Sheets on any template card above. Google asks you to make a copy in your own Drive. Confirm, and you edit your own copy, not the original.
Replace the sample business name, address, and contact details at the top. Use Insert > Image > Insert image over cells to replace the sample logo.
Enter a description, quantity, and unit price for each line. The amount column multiplies them. To add a line, insert a row between two item rows and copy the amount formula from the row above. The subtotal includes the new row automatically.
The rate sits in the label of the tax line, for example VAT (20%). Change the number in the brackets and the tax and total recalculate. Some designs have a tax column instead, where you enter the rate per line.
Go to File > Download > PDF. Choose Fit to width and Portrait, then export. Email the PDF to your client.
The free invoice skill fills any of these 12 designs from a short description. It asks for the details an EU invoice needs, such as the service date and VAT IDs, and can turn the PDF into a ZUGFeRD e-invoice.
Google Sheets and Excel both calculate invoice totals for you. The difference is where the file lives and how you work on it with others.

Google's template gallery has a basic invoice. The free templates above come in 12 designs with all the standard fields and formulas for the subtotal, tax, and total. Click Open in Google Sheets to copy a design to your Drive.
Most designs read the rate from the label of the tax line, for example VAT (20%) or Tax (10%). Change the number and the tax amount and total update. Designs with a tax column take the rate per line.
Click the sample logo and delete it. Then go to Insert > Image > Insert image over cells, upload your file, and drag the corners to size it.
Go to File > Download > PDF, select Fit to width, and attach the PDF to your email. You can also share the sheet with view-only access, but a PDF is the safer choice. Your client gets a clean invoice without the formulas.
Yes. Every design also comes as an Excel file (.xlsx) with the same layout and formulas for the same totals.
There are two ways. In Drive, right-click the file, choose Make a copy, and rename it with the client and invoice number. Or right-click the tab at the bottom and choose Duplicate. The first gives you one file per invoice, the second keeps all invoices in one file, one tab each.
Google Sheets calculates the totals for you, Google Docs doesn't. Use Sheets when you want the arithmetic done, and Docs when you want a document-style invoice with more control over fonts and layout.
Sheets handles the arithmetic at any volume. For the invoices and receipts you receive, there's Billpal. It imports them from your email, takes photos of paper receipts via WhatsApp, and exports everything for your accounting software.
Billpal collects invoices and receipts from where they already arrive and turns them into structured, categorized data for your accountant.
